So I've been back in sunny Scotland for a good few months now. I am well into the start of my last year at University and its a bit of a shock to go back.
Considering how awesome a holiday I just had, just staying in one place for longer than a few weeks was weird. Don't get me wrong, its great to be back, I've missed everyone so much. But I just really have a craving to go see some more of the world. However, considering how long it took me to save up for that trip, I'm going to need a better job. And thus brings us to starting University.
Its again strange to be back, and to be in a completely new class. Thats fine, its just another challenge I guess. But the coursework I thought I was getting on okay with has reared its ugly head, like waking up to a less than sober and incoherent person. Just when you think your having a good time, you get herpes and die.
Okay, bit dramatic but it pretty much sums up yesterday. We have these presentation weeks where we pitch our ideas twice a semester which is great. However, being in Kiwiland has seemed to relax my presentation skills a little bit, and to my horror I looked out at the crowd and there was that look on their faces that just read "what the hell are you talking about?". Shit.
So I thought I had a good idea for a research question to explore. I had it mapped out for weeks, before I was even back in the same country. I don't know if it was just me, but I felt like a bumbling idiot trying to explain my ideas. I obviously need a but more work in that area, and I will definatly be doing that for next time. I thought I had prepared well for it, but you win some and you lose some.
Another point that has changed recently is that I am back in good ol' Dundee. After a bit of consideration I thought it might not be best to move straight to Edinburgh when I got back from travelling. It just put too much stress on Uni work. But I'm happy to be back, I caught up with some friends last night who throughly cheered me up and helped me just have fun. It was like I never left.
Overall, everythings working out fine. I do have a lot of work ahead of me, however I am more than ready to take up the challenge and this year will be my year.
